This volume adds to my collection of illustrations of Dante's work. There are several finished works in color here, but the bulk of the book shows Botticelli's black and white drawings for a complete collection of color illustrations to the great Florentine's seminal work. The b & w drawings do not detract or disappoint this reader/viewer, but rather present an idea in process, and as one of the earliest sets of illustrations to Dante, they help to establish a genre that features later artists such as William Blake or Gustave Dore, among others. As such, it's an important work to include in any collection devoted to Dante.
